So glad it was a hit. Love that you found extra uses for the homemade salt and pepper mix. Totally worth the little extra effort!

We are not vegetarians, but this was a great surprise and will not hesitate to make it when entertaining. Crispy outside, silky inside and full of flavor. We more of the salt mixture and used it on other things like scrambled eggs and sandwiches for a powerful change of flavor. This one has the frying step, so takes a moment extra but is worth it. We will be making this often for a nice change from meat and or sauce based dishes.

Thank you, Raz! I’m so glad this recipe caught your eye! If the tofu is fried a day earlier, it will lose its crispy crust. For the best results, I recommend frying it shortly before the final stir-fry. However, if you don’t mind a softer texture, preparing it a day ahead is fine.

Hi Wei,
this tofu looks yum! Quick question, can the initial shallow frying be done earlier in the day with the end stir-fry done right before serving dinner? I would like to make this with a few other dishes for friends and would like to do as much prep in advance as possible. Would really appreciate any tips!

I have a question about your salt and pepper seasoning recipe. You say to break the star anise pods and remove the seeds. Do you mean to release the seeds to toast them, or do you mean remove the seeds and discard them? This is not clear. Please advise.
